Speech and Debate
In Speech and Debate at CHS we teach critical thinking skills and the ability to become a well spoken individual when it comes to discussion and creating civil discourse in today's world. Students here will be required to compete in their 2 events if they are enrolled in the debate class. The events are as follows:
- Cross Examination Debate
- Lincoln Douglas Debate
- Student Congress
- Extemporaneous Speaking (Persuasive and Informative)
- Prose
- Poetry

In Speech and Debate here at Community we compete in Cross Examination Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Student Congressional Debate, Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Prose, Poetry, and more. We are the state Bronze medalist in Informative Speaking, missed CX policy debate State by 1 spot over the last two years and a consistent regional medalist and competitor in Lincoln Douglas Debate. We are a district medalist in Prose and Poetry and made an appearance with the National Speech and Debate Association in congress being the second runner up to the national tournament in Des Moines this year. We are coming off one of the most successful years in Community HS debate history. Our freshman and first year debaters are known to compete at district, regionals, state, and even the national level.
