Texas Tech University offers online Credit by Exam

CREDIT BY EXAMINATION 19 TAC 74.24

Students may use Credit by Examination (CBE)  to earn credit in any high school academic course with the prior approval of the appropriate administrator and counseling staff.

Credit by Examination for acceleration (without prior instruction) is intended for students who have not received instruction in a course or grade level subject and wish to have an opportunity to graduate early or test out of a course. Students who choose to take a credit by examination without prior instruction will need to schedule a conference with the parents, counselor, and an administrator for approval. A student in Grades 9-12 must be given credit for an academic subject in which he/she has not received prior instruction if the student scores:

A student may not attempt a CBE for the same course more than two (2) times.

Credit by Examination for recovery (with prior instruction) is intended for students who received instruction in a course or grade level subject but did not pass/receive credit. In accordance with local district policy, a student in grades 9-12 may be given credit for an academic subject in which he/she had some prior instruction if the student scores 70% on a criterion-referenced test.

The registration fee for ordering Credit by Examination with prior instruction is $80 per test in grades 9-12.
